How Radical Are You?

March 13 2024, by Jose Leal

In our inaugural "How Radical Are You?" co-learning session, we explored what radical means to each of us. It was great hearing new definitions and expressions from members of the Radical community who are discovering every day what it means to be a radical—what it means to be genuinely radical: being unapologetically yourself.

I took this picture of this powerful mixed-media creation by Long Beach artist Narsiso Martinez at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University.

Being radical isn't about defiance for the sake of it — it's about authenticity. It's about recognizing and expressing your purpose and leveraging your innate talents to their fullest extent. Unfortunately, the system we navigate daily — the Fiat system — has dimed this intrinsic light. It has taught us to doubt our intuition, to sideline our feelings, and to conform. "Follow the rules," it says, "Do what is expected, and suppress that inner voice that urges you to leap beyond boundaries."

Education, the workplace, and many other parts of our lives are built on a premise that contradicts our radical essence. We're that there's a defined path to success, a one-size-fits-all approach to learning and achievement. But what if we challenged this notion? What if we acknowledged that every child, every individual, possesses a unique way of understanding the world, a distinct set of needs, and a personal learning and impacting journey?

Imagine a world where bosses are a relic, where learning environments are adaptable and personalized, not rigid and uniform. This vision isn't just a dream—it's the cornerstone of our Radical co-learning sessions and the vision of Sugata Mitra's SOLE concept now being applied by people worldwide, like SOLE Columbia and StartSOLE.org.

Being radical means embracing the full spectrum of your being. It's a recognition that the Fiat system, with its rules and constraints, has kept us from exploring the vastness of our potential and living our most authentic lives — our radical purpose.

So, how radical are you? Are you ready to flip the lens? From the Fiat lens that makes these systems seem normal to one that sees life as a dynamic process where each of us has our role? Are you prepared to explore the uncharted territories of your purpose and potential?

Join us every second Tuesday of the month for our Radical Co-Learning sessions. Together, let's forge a path toward a future where we are not just participants in a system but creators of a new reality, a reality where we live, learn, and work in harmony with our radical selves.
